A Month of Planning: How the EVÜS 10th Anniversary Celebration Came Together

EVÜS

One March afternoon, a handful of EVÜS members reached a consensus that the 10th anniversary of the association was an event that simply had to be celebrated in grand style. No sooner said than done: those interested in organizing the event were gathered into a group chat, and the intense planning began. The familiar party venue of the legendary freshmen parties, Rotalia, was once again chosen for the celebration, and after lengthy discussions, it was decided to invite the well-known band Rutiin as the main performer.

At the same time, keyboards and phone lines were buzzing as we searched for sponsors to help with food, drinks, and funding for the party. We faced several refusals, but fortunately, there were plenty of generous companies willing to support our celebration. Once the agreements with sponsors were in place, we had to figure out how to transport the sponsored products from various corners of Estonia to Tartu. The organizers didn’t hesitate here either: one car was packed with several kilos of baby carrots and liters of carrot juice, another drove around to the cheerful clink of bottles, and a third provided a ride for 200 yogurt cups.

Games

But people don’t come to a party just to eat and drink; entertainment is a must, and what 10th birthday would be complete without games? For the first game, we asked our professors to send us photos from their childhood so that party guests could later try to guess which professor the little rascal in the picture grew up to be. The second game bore the ambitious name ‘Vet Olympics’ and tested the participants’ skills across three different events.

Setting up the party venue

For the party decorations, we aimed for a cheerful, colorful, and playful vibe. Several party supply stores sponsored us with bags of balloons, colorful garlands, and all sorts of decorations. We created a giant balloon garland, which was too large to fit in a car and had to be cheerfully paraded through the streets of Karlova to Rotalia on the day of the event. Preparations also included sorting gifts from sponsors into raffle bags, cutting open stuffed animals for Vet Olympics, and making holes in cardboard boxes (those who were at the party will know why).
